Who may use the Centre and it's Scooters ?

The Shopmobility Scooters may be hired by anyone who needs assistance to be independently mobile in the town centre.  Members of the service are both young and older people.  Their mobility difficulty may be short term or longer term.

Training is given to all users.

Cost of Hiring

The annual registration fee for members is £7.50  Thereafter members pay £2.00 to use an electric scooter or power chair for the day.

Manual chairs are £1.50 for the day.

When membership is taken you automatically become a Wessex Shopmobility member.   This means that you can use the majority of the Shopmobility schemes in the Wessex area as a member.  It's great value.

Volunteering for the Centre

The Centre is operated by one manager and 8 volunteers.  The number of people using the centre is continually increasing and we are seeking new volunteers.  Volunteers are trained in the operation of the centre,  some volunteers undertake training about Disability and Caring Information.

As many of our clients require extra help to carry out everyday tasks, we are in need of someone who can push a manual chair around the shopping centre.

Potential volunteers are invited to contact the centre to see what the work involves.  Any help is welcomed

Funders and Supporters

The centre is supported by grants from Fareham Borough Council and Hampshire Social Services.  Fareham Shopping Centre is a keen supporter and helps wherever they can; details of Fareham Shopping can be found on their web site.

The Co-Operative Group have recently given a grant of £400 to purchase much needed bags and stick holders for our manual chairs, power chairs and scooters.  We still need to raise more money to furnish the rest of our equipment.

Our thanks to Mark Lewis of  'Lewis Mobility' for his continued support.  As well as donating equipment when he can, he maintains our equipment and all we have to pay for is replacement parts.  He also helps out wherever he can by loaning his van to support our trips.

Why not advertise your business on our scooters. There is a set scale of charges.  If you are interested, contact Barrie Hill at Shopmobility. 01329 282929 or email  bhill@farehamaction.org.uk
