Overview for Dial-a-Ride and Community Transport   Administrator – Scheduler

Reduction in transport for people with mobility difficulties can be one of the biggest limitations to their quality of life.  We provide two schemes; one is Dial-a-Ride and the other Community Transport.

The difference between the two is that Dial-a-Ride has individual members who book a trip from home to somewhere (most usually shopping) in a minibus, whereas Community Transport is our provision of the whole bus to a community group.  Both involve the practicalities of using minibuses, taking bookings and the related administration.  So these are clearly activities that have huge community benefit and also require enthusiasm and efficient, friendly working within a team.

Good telephone, communication and computer skills are important for this role.  As it involves buses, schedules and places, a good sense of practicalities and timing is necessary.

The buses are coordinated or scheduled by a team of 3 in the office. However as we also have to cover for driver holidays and unforeseen events, we will need office staff to move buses or cover driving; it would be preferable if all office staff could undertake this but we would look at each applicant’s skills individually.

As the role involves contact with vulnerable adults and access to confidential information about them we require the administrator scheduler to declare all convictions and to provide a CRB disclosure.

The office is in the centre of Fareham and the bus yard is 2 miles away.  The services are operated for Fareham and Gosport Borough areas by Fareham Community Action which is an independent registered charity.  Funding for the services is provided by Hampshire County Council and Fareham and Gosport Borough Councils; in line with normal practice the service is tendered.

The benefit of our services to our passengers is huge.  Being able to help by administering the service brings tremendous satisfaction to good administrators.
